Wine Museum

Sights & Attractions

When you're not busy tasting the local wines, there's plenty more to see and do. Here are some of the attractions worth exploring in and around Cafayate.

Museum of the Vine and Wine

An interactive museum dedicated to the history of viticulture in the Calchaquí Valleys. Perfect for understanding the cultural and historical context of wine in the region before visiting the wineries.

Quebrada de las Flechas

Spectacular rock formations along Route 40 between Cafayate and Cachi. A unique landscape well worth exploring.

Quebrada de Cafayate

Also known as Quebrada de las Conchas, this red sandstone canyon features impressive geological formations such as El Anfiteatro (The Amphitheater), La Garganta del Diablo (The Devil's Throat), and El Obelisco (The Obelisk).

Main Plaza

The heart of the town, surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and the Nuestra Señora del Rosario church. Ideal for an evening stroll.

La Estancia de Cafayate

A premier resort community on the outskirts of town featuring a championship 18-hole golf course designed by Bob Cupp, former head golf course designer for Jack Nicklaus Golf — one of the most scenic courses in South America, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Calchaquí Valleys. The Clubhouse restaurant is open to visitors for lunch and offers excellent regional cuisine with panoramic views of the course and surrounding mountains. The property is also home to the Grace Cafayate Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel with spa, pool, and first-class dining.

Quilmes Ruins

About 50 km south of Cafayate along Ruta 40, the Quilmes Ruins are the remains of the largest pre-Columbian settlement in Argentina. This fortified city was home to the Quilmes people for over a thousand years before the Spanish conquest. The site features restored stone walls climbing the hillside, an on-site museum, and sweeping views of the valley. Allow 2-3 hours for the visit.

Pachamama Museum (Amaiché del Valle)

Located in the town of Amaiché del Valle, about 60 km from Cafayate on the road to Tucumán, the Museo de la Pachamama is a striking stone building housing a collection of regional art, minerals, fossils, and artifacts celebrating Andean culture and the earth goddess Pachamama. The building itself is a work of art, built entirely from local stone by artist Héctor Cruz. A worthwhile stop on the drive between Cafayate and Tucumán.

Airplane, Glider & Hot Air Balloon Rides

Plumaria offers unique aerial experiences from Cafayate's Gilberto Lavaque airfield: airplane flights over the Quebrada de las Conchas and vineyards, silent glider flights soaring like a condor, and hot air balloon rides over the Calchaquí Valleys.
